Madden League

LFG is looking to host a Madden League for some fun football times. We are fielding interested participants to compete. We are asking to for a $5 Pre-Registration Fee. Entry Fee will be $50. Entry Fee will be due on the first day of the event. Cash prize pool will start at $200 and will be flexible based on sign-ups. We are hoping to have at least 6 of your beautiful faces register to continue with formal registrations.

We are looking to play in-person games Saturdays beginning September 8th. All games to be played on Playstation.

August Nights LAN

Get your tickets here!

It is here! Overwatch, Dead by Daylight, the Dota 2 International, BYOB – all of these and more will be at our August Nights LAN. We’re opening up the whole weekend for attendees. The base ticket gets you in from Saturday at noon until Sunday at 8pm. You can upgrade your ticket to include our awesome Friday Night party as well, so you can show up the night before, set up, and game with us for more than 48 hours.

If you don’t have a gaming PC, don’t worry. Grab one of our LAN with LFG PC tickets and you can use one of our gaming PCs. You will also be able to play our console and board games while you’re here.

Our venue is right on a main boulevard with plenty of places to eat, an awesome rpg/ccg game store, and more all in walking distance.

We do not have any places to sleep but we will have staff here the entire time. Please feel free to leave your setup and get some sleep – we will keep your rig safe. Or see if you can go an entire weekend without sleep by using G-Fuel (please don’t, that was a joke).

March Events

We’re rolling right into March with some of our most exciting tournaments yet.

 

3.4.16 – Friday Night Fights

Friday Night Fights is an event centered around fighting games. People will be discussing different aspects of the genre as well as running a mini tournament. Anyone who has a love for fighting games should stop down and meet people with a similar interest.

 

3.12.16 – Indie Minis

This will be a series of mini tournaments centered around the concept of independent game developers. All of these games are relatively easy to pick up and can be a ton of fun with just a few people. Come learn some new games and meet some great people.

 

3.13.16 – Imperial Assault Store Championship

Imperial assault toes the line between a board game and a miniature war game. Drawbridge Games is running a store championship at LFG. Build yourself an army and come test your skill.

 

3.18.16 – Super Smash Bros for the WiiU Friendlies

We’re holding another Friendly Tournament for Smash Bros. If you love smash, but aren’t thrilled by an overly competitive atmosphere, this is your event. Check the site for all the rules. Our last one was very successful.

 

3.20.16 – Star Wars Armada Store Championship

Our third Fantasy Flight Store Championship will be Star Wars Armada. This event is also being run by Drawbridge Games.

 

3.26.16 – NBA 2K16 Tournament

While all the hype around college basketball is going on, we’ll be throwing an NBA tournament to keep the excitement going.

Madden 16 Tournament before the Big Game

We’re holding a Madden 16 tournament on February 7th because we think there is a big football event that day. Come compete, and if you want, you can stick around and party for the rest of the day.  There will be some chips with dips and a couple people are bringing in some homebrewed beer for anybody to share if they’re over 21 years old.  Our normal rates will apply after the tournament, which are $4/hr or $2/hr if you are just hanging out and not using any technology (like if you were eating some chips and watching some sort of game on a huge TV).

 

The tournament will start at 1 pm, and should end at 5 pm, but could run longer if we have a lot of interest.  It will be single elimination.  $10 preregistration fee for the tournament, and $12 on the day of the tournament.  $5 per entrant will go to the prize pool.  Winning will be split 60/30/10 between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, respectively, if there are 20 or more entrants.  If there are fewer than 20 entrants, first place will take the entire prize pool, and 2nd and third place will receive free gaming time from LFG.

Rules:

  •  You may use any of the 32 NFL teams from the Madden 2016 roster. No other teams are allowed (Created teams, all madden, canton greats, etc.)
  •  You may change teams between rounds.
  • You may change your playbook between rounds.
  • Seeding and matchups for the tournament will be done by random draw.
  • Home and away will be decided with a coin flip
  • In the event a game ends with the score tied, the game will be restarted with the same game situation (including field position and possession if possible), and the first team to score will win.
  • In the event of a power loss or system freeze, the game will be restarted with “situational setup” to exactly match the score, settings, quarter, time, and possession and play will resume.
  • The LFG Manager/Supervisor reserves the right to make changes to the tournament format at any time.

Game Settings:

  • Difficulty: All-Pro
  • AI Settings: Default
  • Game Clock: 4 min quarters
    • May be decreased depending on time.
  • Weather: Random
  • Championship will be held in “Super Bowl” Mode
  • Challenges: ON
  • Substitutions can ONLY be made:
    • Before the kickoff
    • At halftime
    • If a timeout is called

Cheating, Glitches, Reporting a Violation:

  • If you believe your opponent is cheating by abusing game programming glitches to gain advantage, or is violating the parameters set by the LFG Staff, report it immediately. The decision made by the supervisor on disqualification or point penalty is final.
  • Possible Glitches and Cheating Methods
    • D-Lineman must be kept on the screen
  • Onside Kicks are permitted ONLY:
    • When the kickoff team is down by 21+
    • When the kicking team is losing in the 4th Quarter
  • No one may assist another player with decisions during the game.
  • In a situation where a FG is going to be attempted and the clock is running down, the defense CANNOT jump offside in effort to make the clock run out
  • Excessive intentional penalties will result in disqualification
  • Excessively toggling the screen to gain advantage is not allowed

February Events

February promises to be a very busy month down here at LFG. There will be a number of tournaments and events, So whatever your interests may be, we have to you covered. This is a chronological list of the events we have planned so far for the month. Keep checking our calendar for updates.

 

2.7.16 – Madden Tournament

What is better than tailgating? Getting in the football mood with some football games before The Big Game! Come compete with other madden lovers for the chance to win some cash. The tournament should be ending just in time for you to catch the game. You can stick around here and party with us.

 

2.13.16 – February Dance Party

We push the couches to the side and  give our restless feet a chance to dance the night away! If you’ve never played Just Dance, it is very easy to become familiar with because it combines intuitive interaction and fun for the whole family.

 

2.14.16 – Valentine’s Day – Bring a Buddy

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, we’re letting you bring your date for free! It doesn’t really have to be your date. You just get two people in for the price of one. You can still tell your date it is romantic to play games together. You don’t have to tell them we’re giving you a discount. 😉

 

2.20.16 – Street Fighter V  Launch Tournament

That’s right! Street Fighter V is coming out on the 16th. That gives you four days to practice up and come show off your skills. This release is highly anticipated, so this tournament will be epic! Street Fighter is arguably the largest tournament game in the fighting genre.

 

2.21.16 – X-Wing Store Championship

Fantasy Flight Store Championships are coming to LFG. We are teaming up with Drawbridge Games to host a series of table top war games. We are launching the series with and X-Wing championship. You don’t even need a vast knowledge of table top war games to enjoy this event. With just a love of Star Wars, you can find people that want to play games with you. You also have a chance to qualify for the regional events!

 

2.27.16 – Rocket League Tournament

The December tournament was a huge success. We are doing it all again. If you love soccer, or cars, or… flying in cars… come play some games with us, and have a chance to win some prizes.

Monday Night Rock Band Karaoke

Every Monday night at 7, we’re going to have Rock Band Karaoke.  We’ll turn the PA to loud.  You bring your own beverage and sing your hearts out.  We all have fun.

 

Specific info:

  • The entrance fee is $10 per person, and the event goes from 7 pm until 10 pm.
  • This is an all ages event, as well as a BYOB event.  As always, please abide by our Code of Conduct.
  • The microphone will go straight into the mix as well as into the game so that any vocal delay is mitigated.  The video from the game will be split for viewing by both the players and the crowd.
  • Prizes will be raffled out as they are available to us, but expect to see tickets for local concerts, free game time, gift cards for guitar stores, and other rock and roll merchandise.
  • Feel free to bring your own controllers.  We will be playing on a PS4.
  • We are using an electronic drum kit now, and we have a double bass pedal on it (DW3000).  So you can really tear it up on those pro drums if you want to.

Ludum Dare, in progress!

We already let you know that LFG would be hosting participants in Ludum Dare, the worldwide video game making competition and jam. Here we are, a day and some in, with 70 degree weather in December, and here’s how it’s going so far.

What is Ludum Dare?

It’s a free international competition that’s been around since 2002. Participants build video games for fun and learning. The name is Latin and means ‘to give a game’. The dude who made Minecraft has done it at least 7 times. It happens 3 times a year, with a theme chosen by popular vote (this year has two tied themes: ‘Two button controls’ and ‘Growing’ – you can choose one or both). The list of past themes is amazing and includes such gems as ‘You are the Monster’, ’10 seconds’, and ‘Minimalism (potato)’. Ludum Dare strongly encourages sharing: during the competition, when its website is an awesome stream of participant progress posts, and after, when anyone who wants to be officially judged makes their game publicly available and some participants release a time-lapse of the development of their game.

Ludum Dare has two halves: the strict competition, where one person has 48 hours to complete a game, and the slightly more relaxed jam, where a team of any size gets 72 hours. To participate for realsies, everything for the game must be created within the time of the competition – music, art, code, everything. The prizes are fame and the experience (no cash). The winner is determined by participant vote during the 3 weeks after the competition.

What’s up at LFG?

We announced that we were hosting Ludum Dare, both for people who already had a team and also for people who wanted to find a group. And on Friday night, people started showing up. We ended up with 6 teams – two onesies, 3 twosies, and 1 threesie. Some people came teamed up already, and some came open to working with whoever was there. Some of the folks at LFG are familiar to us from the last game jam; some of them are students; some of them we know from the local tech community.

LFG provides a (really cool) place and some structure around the event.

In terms of place, we’re hosting Ludum Dare out of the coworking half of LFG, complete with game-making amenities like a clean, well-lit space, tables, chairs (oh my!), fast internet, whiteboards, a kitchenette (with a constant supply of free coffee), hundreds of Post-it notes and Sharpies, a Cintiq (which is super fun to draw on), 24-hours access via phone app, a local chat server, powerful computers to work on if you’d prefer not to bring your own, and a game-playing half for breaks or an audience for your game. LFG, of course, is in the middle of Brookline, which gives you nearby beer stores, coffee shops, bakeries, and lots of restaurants to walk to for refueling or taking a break. And there’s room on the floor for your sleeping bags if you’re that hardcore 🙂

And for structure, we’re taking the lessons we learned hosting our first game jam and applying them. We encouraged discussion and team forming, and provided a chat server from the start. We set up a schedule of group demos so that teams could take time to reflect on progress and hear feedback. We’re reporting on the event as it happens with a podcasting team and Twitch streams of development. We’ll document what groups did at LFG and share that information with future participants.

How’s it going so far?

The teams are going strong, with more or less sleep (‘this is actually pretty normal college hours…’). We’ve seen work with both themes, and some playable things coming out. I’m excited to try out all of the games at the conclusion of the contest!
